Watercolour Painting, Alcohol Markers, and AI

Autobot

The autobot above was my next project because I wanted to see what I could achieve with my new alcohol markers. As you can see it isn't finished yet - it is still a work in progress. I have made a few digital enhancements so that I could put it up on my blog. He is called AI Autobot and will be undergoing some changes to fit the description. Recently, everybody has been raving about AI Artificial Intelligence. I am steering clear of AI at the moment because my intelligence is okay for me. I don't want to lose my edge by relying on some computer program for now. After all, I got this far in life without it.

After starting with watercolour painting and succeeding with that I have ventured into multi media to get some exposure to a new dimension in my art. Working with different mediums comes with its challenges because the ideal paper for markers is the opposite of what you need for watercolour painting. To successfully blend these two together on smooth paper is not the easiest thing to attempt. Do they belong together? No. But one can break the rules to see what is possible. The result is a new experience. If it works, success is sweet.

This picture was created mainly with alcohol markers. I had to work hard to make it happen and I found it very challenging. As usual I almost threw it away. It is obviously not realistic at all but it catches the eye because it's colourful. Does everything gel together? No. But is an experience and as such helps me to do better next time.

On the subject of using different mediums to express one's creativity, isn't that what Leonardo Da Vinci did? He painted and sculpted and designed things. A very multi-talented guy. Some people even include music with their art. I wish I had the talent for that. Maybe I would be lucky to do that one day.

This picture above has just been created with coloured markers. Practise makes perfect. Again, it's not a masterpiece, just a way of practising with my new set of markers.

This is an update. The picture above is one of my favourites because it is colourful and tells a story. Sometimes I get a sudden surge of inspiration and produce something I really like. I was still very new to watercolour painting and still managed to produce a nice piece of art.  On a recent trip to the Cape I met a lady who owns a gallery in Worcester, Western Cape called Worcester Gallery. She was a real inspiration and gave me her full attention as we discussed watercolour art. She liked the images of my paintings which I showed her on my mobile phone and encouraged me to keep on painting and send some of my artwork to her. When someone you don't know gives you that sort of encouragement, then you really feel more motivated and appreciated. Her advice was that I should pick a theme and master it, which was buildings. I Painted a Horse

Who can resist a beautiful picture of a horse? These elegant animals are majestic and have served mankind for centuries. Many stories have been written about them. They have featured in movies, used to transport stagecoaches across America, transported cavalry across borders into battle. They have ploughed fields, been used to pull chariots for ancient Greeks and Romans. Horses have been raced to enrich people financially. They have been entered into show jumping events. The list goes on. Horses have also roamed the prairies in the wild and that is one way to remember them well. When a picture comes across one’s path that looks so beautiful, we stop and admire it. In my case I decided to paint this one – my very first painting of an animal in watercolours. The Answer to Trouble

Friday 6 October 2023 Last night I decided to paint a newer version of my first picture for this post - just for the fun of it because I wanted to update this post. The idea of using a house for this post is an apt one because in the New Testament Jesus (the Good Shepherd) said if you build your house on the rock (a proper foundation which is His Word) then, when adversity comes, your house will withstand all the storms of life and trouble. As a believer there are other things we can do. In Ephesians we are encouraged to put on the whole armour of God and in Proverbs we are told to guard our hearts because all the issues of life come from there. We can also speak the Word of God over circumstances and use our trust and faith in God to change circumstances. Lastly, we are encouraged in the book of James to exercise patience during the storms. So, the storms aren't gone yet and we are doing our part while we stand in faith for circumstances to improve. This is not the first time thes
