Book Progress

Book cover design and some pages

The book that I have been writing has suffered a few setbacks but that does not mean that I gave up. I started this project more than three years ago and have been determined to continue with it until it is published. The last hurdle was that I was told that the company I worked for was sold and that I should rather rethink the contents and name of the book because there might be complaints about them from the new owner. So, I obviously was not going to test that issue.

I started changing things again for the third time because I wanted to finish my book. It sounds easier said than done but lots of determination and thinking enabled me to get to a good place with the idea of the book and the title which freed me from trying to stick to one topic. I am considering making the font on the cover bolder but I think the picture is not too bad.

Any journey usually involves taking a suitcase of sorts along to carry your luggage in. That is the reason for the suitcase on the cover. I drew the suitcase in Affinity Designer myself. Then, the photographs are from my travels. Hence, the journey is a real account with actual photos that I took myself. Then, I believe I have improved my writing skills because I even included dialogue in certain instances which was a bold step for me.

It saddens me that I had to discard my original book but feel freer because I am now able to tell the story of my journey through life where I experienced working in different places or travelled to other countries. Since I am older than seventy now and still work to produce an income, it has not been easy to focus on the book all the time. But by now I am more used sitting in front of my computer writing or typing content for my book and blog.

The blog was started in 2012 to see if people would want to read my stories. Now, twelve years later I have had almost 96 000 visits even though I did not focus on one niche but instead just wrote what was in my heart and thoughts. That may not sound like a lot of people because some bloggers have far exceeded those numbers. The fact is I still continue to attract readers on a daily basis.

Because I have written my first book which is almost ready to be published I can now see if people would be willing to pay to read longer pieces that I wrote. I think, if you have enjoyed my short articles in this blog, then you would definitely enjoy my book. It has more beautiful photos and it really is more interesting than what I could write about in just a few paragraphs in a blog. You would also learn a couple of things and maybe even be challenged in some instances.

I will be sharing a bit more soon.
