The Best Laid Plans Of Mice And Men

Ron
In April I wrote an article titled "Read, Write, Learn and Exercise." There I said that I had decided to take better care of myself – to read something every day, exercise every day and learn something new every day, amongst other things. All in the interest of self-improvement.

I don't know so much about the exercise part because work usually wins the contest. Yesterday and today I thought about riding my bicycle, but just couldn't get around to doing it. Maybe tomorrow I will.

The well-known quote from the famous writer, Robert Burns came to mind, "The best-laid plans of mice and men." So I'm human like everyone else. I'm just very thankful that the back pain of last year never returned. Probably because I have been paying more attention to my posture. Whenever I catch myself slouching or walking wrong I stretch and set my body right.

Today I caught up with my writing, so I feel better after that (2375 words). Hopefully, if I practice enough it will get better. They say that you must keep on practicing and eventually you'll get there.

As for learning, that isn't a problem because it's my lifestyle by now.

Reading is my passion, but I don't get enough time for that either. Working for myself is a very demanding occupation. I think a lot about what I need to do next and then, quite often, can't wait to get started implementing what I thought about. That probably makes me a workaholic. At least I can't be classified as being lazy.

When I was in a classroom this week we were asked who liked their jobs and my hand shot up. I must love what I do for a living because it doesn't feel like work most of the time. I've been at it for over 25 years now. Imagine what I can accomplish in the next 25 years!

Thanks for reading.
