Water Safety – Reinforced Pool Covers (NEW)

Image
Water safety is of utmost importance. There is a video where a child manages to climb on the fence surrounding the pool and he easily unlocks the pool gate in seconds. What a scary sight. Children and pets – sometimes even adults – can’t swim. They need your protection if you have a pool. Accidents happen unexpectedly. We hear regularly in the news about loved ones drowning in swimming pools and the trauma that they suffer because of the tragic loss. Maybe you are visiting with a friend and your attention is somewhere else and didn't notice that your beloved child had slipped away to explore the yard. Sounds familiar but incidences like these occur when you don’t want them to. Make a wise decision to safeguard your pool by adding a proper swimming pool reinforced cover. DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because how would you ever measure the cost of a life? A pool safety cover is definitely the answer because it is the last barrier to protect your pool should a toddler manage t...

A Funeral In Brakpan - Oom David Engelbrecht

Image
In October 2017 I accompanied my wife to her uncle's birthday party in Brakpan. Her family was very glad to see my wife Maggie since we hadn't visited with them for a long time. The occasion was her “Oom” David’s 85th birthday. From the photos in my article, you could see the great joy on everyone’s faces. Today we attended David’s funeral, almost a year later. In spite of the somber setting, the people were friendly and open. Maggie was again treated with lots of love. I commented in my previous article that the people from Brakpan don't wear masks and pretend to be someone else or try to act better when in the company of others. No, they just act like themselves with total freedom. Take it or leave it. So, it was our pleasure to be in their company again. They are always ready to shower you with truckloads of genuine love and respect that will make you want to keep going back for more. You can spot that kind of love a mile away because it is from their hearts. ...

Joburg Gasshuku 9 Sep 2018

The next Johannesburg Karate Gasshuku will be held on 8 September 2018. For more information, you can go to the website to get more details. There is no doubt that anyone who is a karateka earns our respect. There have been many movies depicting the sheer brilliance of individuals defending themselves against attackers with martial arts techniques, usually bare-handed. One particular film star that comes to mind is my favorite, Jackie Chan. I love watching the guy going bananas ducking and diving and kicking his way out of several attackers. I just Googled some facts about Jackie Chan and discovered that he is a black belt in Hapkido and also knows other martial arts as well. To the uninformed like me, it all seems like karate, but I am probably insulting the martial arts purists when I make statements like that. However one looks at the sport of karate and martial arts you have to agree on one thing. You don't mess with those guys because you are going to get your bu...

Blood Moon Stories

Image
Everyone is hyped up about the biggest lunar eclipse of the century. Those of us who were able to witness this unusual spectacle were awestruck by this unusual phenomenon. It was cool, as the younger generation put it. In ancient times there might have been rituals and sacrifices accompanying the event among the moon worshippers. Chaldeans had many gods and the moon was one of them. No wonder we still add phrases like blood moon to our description of this lunar eclipse. Just Google the subject and you get tons of information like " The blood moon prophecy was a series of apocalyptic beliefs promoted by Christian ministers ." But I remember my own blog posts of 2013 when I used "There be a bad moon out tonight." It wasn't anything bad at all. I was just adding some fun to my stories. Here are my stories: With all the excitement of yesterday, we were really looking forward to another wonderful, sunny day, but it never happened because a chill came along...
