December holidays are here. People usually go on holiday to visit family, friends or to just get away. What to do with those holiday photos? Well, there are many ways to get creative with some lovely images.
Let’s start with the photograph you are going to take. Make sure that the subject you are going to photograph is well lit. Ideally, the light source should come from behind you onto the subject.
Next, try and compose your shot properly. You don’t want to be too far from the subject so that it looks insignificant in the photograph. If you are too close then you could end up with lens distortion. Also, keep the camera level with the horizon. A camera in a cell phone is also a camera. Today’s cell phones are usually capable of taking excellent shots if done correctly.
The biggest problem with taking photographs is camera shake. If you hurry the shot you will stand a good chance of ending up with a blurred photo. This is as a result of a slight movement whilst pressing the shutter bu…

In Loving Memory - Charlotte Roth

A message from Charlotte Roth Today's date is tattooed in my heart <3

As a writer, I always try to comment on the social settings and the emotional world around me...
Last year, I wrote a very heartfelt book about a mother's struggle to keep her son alive after he's shot in a school shooting. If you're interested in a free e-copy, I would love to give it to (see description in comments).

All you have to do is PM me or write in comments. PS. The story will make you think and you might need a tissue or two.

Take care and all the best <3

Workmaster Protection For Your Workforce

When it comes to protection you have my attention. As I've discussed in a previous article protective workwear is a vital part of working in hazardous environments. Without it, you are taking a huge risk.
You should protect your eyes, your hearing, your head, and your whole body with the proper approved gear. If something heavy falls on your head and you don't have proper head protection, then you will get seriously injured. I once fell with my mountain bike and my head hit the pavement very hard. Fortunately, I had my cycling headgear on and avoided a nasty injury to my head.
On another occasion, an insect almost penetrated my eye whilst riding my scooter. With proper protection, I was saved from losing an eye. When working with power tools I am very cautious and wear gloves and a visor. You can't be too careful. Accidents happen when you don't expect them.
I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Workmaster for providing all the protective gear that just abou…

Congratulations Absolute Frame

Absolute Frame, absolute quality, absolutely beautiful! Congratulations on your work that looks so exquisite. I was there at your shop when you were planning the box frame in the photo above. I never expected it to look so good. You are truly a master at your craft and your picture frames are always stunning. The canvas frames are also beautiful.

May you have a fantastic Christmas and continue to grow in 2019. Facebook link.

Congratulations RBTS Racing

Sounds of an engine in high revs emanate from the Dyna Tunnel as I walk towards RBTS Racing. Ross is probably in another world as he imagines racing the car around his favourite track in his thoughts. But he keeps his focus on the engine management instruments in front of him. "This one should win the race," he thinks to himself. After all, the V8 is running smoothly through the revs and there's lots of power.
Congratulations to RBTS Racing for doing a fine job on all those fabulous cars during 2018. Also on your new website. You have reached new clients on Facebook and made new clients and friends.
May you have a blessed Christmas and gain many more clients during 2019.

Congratulations Maret Pro Lab

Congratulations Maret Pro Lab on your new website in 2018.  Also for creating memories for your thousands of clients through the high quality of your photography and printing. All the school photographs that you took and printed for the parents took a lot of work. What I have seen of your work is of a very high standard and I'm sure your clients were very satisfied. You also printed a photograph on canvas and stretch-framed it for me and my client was impressed with the results.
May you have a blessed Christmas and a prosperous 2019. Keep up the good work. For photography, printing, framing, promotional gifts, and corporate clothing contact Maret Pro Lab for professional results.

Congratulations SA Platforms

Congratulations SA Platforms on your recent joint venture with the Dickinson Group in Zambia. It was an important milestone in 2018. When assistance was needed in your community you were there to help. You trained many operators of cherry pickers how to work proficiently and safely with lifting platforms. Then, you provided excellent service in the rental and sales of cherry pickers. May your Christmas be blessed and 2019 be a year of great opportunities to spread your services into new markets where you will continue to lift them safer and higher.

Stained Glass For Christmas

A stained glass window, stained glass door panels or a stained glass lampshade for Christmas! The most beautiful windows are made with stained glass. Above are some of the most beautiful examples made by Petro of Tiny Dot Studio.

I will quote from my previous article as follows:

“Okay, you get the picture. A window is a two-dimensional object. Now add light to it and it becomes three dimensional. Close your eyes and picture the most exquisite stained glass window in a church that you visited once. What do you experience? Many more dimensions, hey. You start to hear organ music and a choir singing - heavenly music. Your memories take you back to a special time in your life. The colours in the design represent many different things like the red depicting a pleasant warmth of love. The blue represents the sky and heaven - a higher dimension. The green reminds you of growth and nature. White would be purity.

All these colours and emotions flood through your mind, spirit, and emotions put…

Dyna Tuning - The Dyno Room

Contact RBTS Racing for world-class Dyna Tuning and benefit from the special care taken during the tune-up.
I have written about their amazing setup before and decided to include some photographs of cars in the dyno room for my readers. As I've said in previous articles it's a real treat visiting RBTS Racing because I get to see some exquisite cars and muscle engines.

The good thing is that more and more clients are booking their cars for Dyna Tuning so whenever I go there Ross is always working and keeping the dyno room busy.

I hope you have enjoyed these few photos. There's more on the RBTS Racing website. Please book your car early to avoid disappointment.

Cherry Picker For Safe Access To Heights

Cherry pickers are ideal for routine inspections, cleaning or maintenance tasks, working at heights. They are generally used in the construction, mining, metals smelting, and mineral processing industries to name but a few. The safety of workers is of prime importance with falls from heights and falling objects being the leading cause of fatal injuries on worksites in many parts of the world; safety has to centre stage in all working at working at heights tasks, followed by efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Cherry pickers are rapidly replacing traditional access systems such as ladders, scaffolding, bosun’s chairs, and rope swings, which are time-consuming, expensive and often dangerous to use.

Recently The Dickinson Group of Companies announced the establishment of its latest joint venture with SA Platforms (Pty) Ltd. The two South African Headquartered companies have joined forces to establish SA Platforms (Zambia) Ltd; a Zambian registered company that will extend the range of SA…

Workmaster Summer Protective Eyewear Promotion

PROTECTIVE EYEWEARWith the bright sunshine of summer coupled with a potentially hazardous working environment, it's even more important to ensure that you and your workers are wearing the right protective eyewear. Besides, when I took these photographs I noticed how fashionable they look. I wouldn't mind a pair myself.
The RSG-100 safety sunglasses with sky blue mirror lenses are particularly cool. They come with an impact ballistic rating as well. The slim pink ladies protective glasses certainly look sexy and are ideal for narrower facial profiles. Come on ladies!
The SG-31G-AF Browspecs features a unitary protective lens with a semi-frame. Very mod! They feature a soft nose bridge with flexible "fingers" for comfort and to minimize slipping. They protect workers from falling debris and dripping sweat.
Then they have the Go-Specs II. They offer goggle-like protection and excellent comfort, closer fit, and a wide field of vision - temples and FR elastic fabric strap ar…

Insect IQ - Pest Control Services (Ants)

Pest control of ants is another story.

During the warmer seasons, the ant population wages a war against my home trying various strategies to invade my domain. Sometimes they innocently send in cleanup teams to collect crumbs or dead bugs from the floor.  Even the smallest spec is targeted. My wife is very meticulous with the house and regularly cleans the floors. But soon the invasions start.

I don’t mind ants in my yard, but my home is a different kettle of fish. A neighbour suggested a certain insecticide but I’m very careful of what my dog may get in her mouth. For this reason, I am rather reluctant to just try anything.

Normal household Doom spray isn’t very effective against these ant pests. Maybe I don’t understand their habits and what makes ants tick - how they bread and why they do what they do. I’ll have to chat with my pest control friend at Insect IQ. After all, he is an expert pest controller. His last advice with the rat made sense and I was able to get rid of that rode…

Lost in Love - Charlotte Roth

Hi friends,
Sorry I've been silent for such a long time. As a writer, it feels odd to say that I've been lost for words. But I have...

At the end of summer, I lost my dad-in-law. I call him that 'cause that's who he was to me--my second dad. The grief was overwhelming and for the longest time, I couldn't write. See, he was one of my biggest fans. He was so not my target audience but he loved every single thing I ever wrote--my emails, my silly texts (always signed, "the crazy lady with all the spoiled rotten kids") and, yes, my books..."It's like I can hear your voice and see you laugh when I read your books," he always used to say.

I just finished my latest book, Lost in Love. I finally managed to write again because he would've wanted me to. And, oh, how I wish he could read this one too. His favorite book was my first book ever, Lost in Seattle, and I'm sure he would have loved to read more about this crazy family in the sequel ..…

1965 Chevy C10 Pick Up Hotrod - Wessels Motors

Wessels Motors agreed to an update to their website recently. They have been a client of mine since I bought my rather old 1998 Merc. We only trust them to service our car and it gives us good mileage without any problems. Below is an interesting article that I think many petrol heads would enjoy. Old vehicles were manufactured to last. Thank you JPW Manufacturing.

1965 Chevy C10 Pick Up Eugene Els from Kempton Park grew up around cars. His dad used to fix cars in his spare time and Eugene used to hang out with him as a kid whilst he was busy. It was from here that his interest in cars grew. He always had a soft spot for a classic, however; he did not want an old car with an underpowered engine and bad breaking so the solution for him was always going to be a Hotrod. The paint, the colour, the engine – the whole look just appeals to him.
Eugene Els’ brother-in-law Ross picked up the 1965 Chevy C10 from a township in Rustenburg. At the time, Eugene didn’t even know what a C10 was.

Every Man Loves What He Is Good At

I started typing this article in Grammarly and titled it, "Ups and Downs," but changed it after I found an appropriate image to "Every man loves what he is good at." I hope you will enjoy reading it.

Yesterday I watched a video on Facebook where a guy was talking about life and how we don't like negative changes that come into our lives. There are times when we are happy and times when we are sad because of a loss or when a loved one has died.

He painted different scenarios that are opposites in our lives and made the point that if everything remained the same, it's like a constant flat line - just like when you die. But the ups and downs in our lives are like an ECG graph of our heartbeat going up and down continuously. That was his perception of being alive. Nothing remaining constant, but moving up and down all the time.

To take it a step further, the next time when I'm down I can accept that and know that things will get better just like he explain…

SA Platforms

SA Platforms, a fantastic client of mine, sponsored a cherry picker to assist with a power outage problem in the Risiville/Three Rivers East & Property Community. They are people with big hearts and I'm proud to be associated with them. I have promoted their services before and this proves that SA Platforms is a community-conscious company that can be trusted to deliver valuable services at all times. Below is a copy of a message thanking them for their assistance.
A HUGE BIG Thanks to for sponsoring the cherry picker for BXC to use in our Ward ....

Safety Shoes (Sport) - Workmaster

Safety shoes are a must for people working around heavy objects. Protecting your feet is important. Recently a heavy board dropped on my big toe and it was extremely painful. Had I been wearing a pair of these lightweight protective shoes then I could have avoided the pain.
So they look just like ordinary running shoes. But they come with a strong toe protector cap. Nice! You can wear them all day long and have protection all the time at work. They also look great on you. Order your pair from Workmaster

Pest Control Solutions - Insect IQ (Gauteng)

The solution to pest control is most often calling in a professional. Here comes a story!
A while ago I stopped at the filling station to check the oil in my engine. For this, I had to lift up the bonnet of my car. What I found sent chills down my spine. I found a nest of leaves and dry grass on the engine. That told me that a rat was probably seeking the warmth of the engine at night and I was horrified. Rats have a tendency to destroy the electric wiring around the engine - not good.
I removed the nest and got some Rattex and always left it in a plastic tray on top of the engine at night. But that didn't have the desired effect and the rodent didn't eat any of it. I kept this up for weeks without success. It was really worrying me because if the rat got to the wires it would be expensive to have an auto electrician redo the wiring.
In the meantime, that clever rodent was probably laughing at me and my clever plan to get rid of him.
Fortunately, I found an expert pest contro…

Water Safety – Reinforced Pool Covers (NEW)

Water safety is of utmost importance.

There is a video where a child manages to climb on the fence surrounding the pool and he easily unlocks the pool gate in seconds. What a scary sight. Children and pets – sometimes even adults – can’t swim. They need your protection if you have a pool. Accidents happen unexpectedly.

We hear regularly in the news about loved ones drowning in swimming pools and the trauma that they suffer because of the tragic loss. Maybe you are visiting with a friend and your attention is somewhere else and didn't notice that your beloved child had slipped away to explore the yard. Sounds familiar but incidences like these occur when you don’t want them to.

Make a wise decision to safeguard your pool by adding a proper swimming pool reinforced cover. DO IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE because how would you ever measure the cost of a life?

A pool safety cover is definitely the answer because it is the last barrier to protect your pool should a toddler manage to access t…

Supa-Fit Your Vehicle

Supa-Fit Mechanical Workshop at the GT Centre next to The Great North Road is a great place to supa-fit your vehicle. The GT Centre is well-known to people in the area and Supa-Fit is a one-stop vehicle repair, maintenance and mechanical workshop.
This means that you can buy new tyres for your car and have them balanced and the wheel alignment can be done there. If your car needs a new exhaust or even a free-flow exhaust fitted, Supa-Fit can do it. Maybe your car isn't performing well anymore and you are considering an engine overhaul, then Supa-Fit has the right workshop, equipment and technicians to get the job done. They also do brakes, cv joints, tow bars, batteries and fix punctures. They also do turbo conversions.

Safety Glasses (East Rand)

Safety glasses are what Workmaster (East Rand) specialize in. They have all types of protective eyewear. These types of special safety glasses protect the eyes from particles, water, chemicals or harsh light from striking the eyes. They are required by workers working in hazardous conditions. A few examples of their uses are:

Cold weatherSwimmingPower toolsBlowtorch gogglesWelding gogglesLaboratory and researchAviationPersonal protective equipmentSafety engineering

It’s important to wear good quality safety glasses especially if you require them for extended periods of time. In those situations, it is advisable to go for prescription glasses. Yes, they are also available from Workmaster.

An important requirement is to ensure that the right tinted glasses are obtained for your workers since individual sensitivities to light, known as photophobia, require special consideration.

All protective safety glasses need to comply with SABS and OHS - General Safety Regulations. Workmaster staff h…

RBTS Racing

Book your special car in for world-class Dyna Tuning at RBTS Racing and benefit from the special care taken during the tune-up.
The unique thing about their operation is that their special Dyno Room eliminates the possibility of the motor vehicle inhaling its own hot, oxygen-less exhaust fumes, therefore creating the closest possible driving simulation on the road. A great plus.
Inside the Dyno Room, a large 1-meter diameter extraction fan clears the full volume of air in the dyno room twice every second creating around 40km/h of fresh wind speed. In my opinion, it looks quite like a wind tunnel. The addition of extra cooling fans placed in front of the motor vehicle maximizes the cooling and creates a safe tuning environment for your motor vehicle (Ross thought of everything). This combination gives you the smoothest most drivable maximum power output map and best fuel economy possible which your engine can deliver.
You will be welcomed by their friendly team. Previous articles abou…

A Funeral In Brakpan - Oom David Engelbrecht

In October 2017 I accompanied my wife to her uncle's birthday party in Brakpan. Her family was very glad to see my wife Maggie since we hadn't visited with them for a long time. The occasion was her “Oom” David’s 85th birthday. From the photos in my article, you could see the great joy on everyone’s faces.

Today we attended David’s funeral, almost a year later. In spite of the somber setting, the people were friendly and open. Maggie was again treated with lots of love. I commented in my previous article that the people from Brakpan don't wear masks and pretend to be someone else or try to act better when in the company of others. No, they just act like themselves with total freedom. Take it or leave it.

So, it was our pleasure to be in their company again. They are always ready to shower you with truckloads of genuine love and respect that will make you want to keep going back for more. You can spot that kind of love a mile away because it is from their hearts.

My camera…

Joburg Gasshuku 9 Sep 2018

The next Johannesburg Karate Gasshuku will be held on 8 September 2018. For more information, you can go to the website to get more details.
There is no doubt that anyone who is a karateka earns our respect. There have been many movies depicting the sheer brilliance of individuals defending themselves against attackers with martial arts techniques, usually bare-handed. One particular film star that comes to mind is my favorite, Jackie Chan. I love watching the guy going bananas ducking and diving and kicking his way out of several attackers. I just Googled some facts about Jackie Chan and discovered that he is a black belt in Hapkido and also knows other martial arts as well. To the uninformed like me, it all seems like karate, but I am probably insulting the martial arts purists when I make statements like that.
However one looks at the sport of karate and martial arts you have to agree on one thing. You don't mess with those guys because you are going to get your butt kicked go…

Goodies Restaurant - More Than You'd Expect.

Goodies Restaurant is a delightful family-friendly restaurant in Glen Marais, Kempton Park, in South Africa. This article serves as an introduction to you if you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting there yet. If you have been to Goodies Restaurant, they now have a brand-new website where you can peruse their menu.

The huge restaurant is situated on the grounds of Goodies 4 Gardens – they also have a new website.
Goodies Restaurant has been around for a long time and has always been a favourite venue for families because they have a thrilling playground for kids. There are a sandpit and a big jumping castle for the little ones to enjoy.

Nestled among a canopy of trees and manicured lawns there are neat sets of tables and chairs for functions. To one side they also have a mini-golf course – a good way to keep the kids occupied when they get restless.

For the thirsty, they have an engaging sports bar with TV screens on the walls for those who want to watch a sports channel while downin…

Racing Cars - Dyno Tuning

During the 60’s and 70’s, I fancied cars like the Ford Capri with a Gunston paint scheme and fat mags. Also, the imported left-hand-drive Mustangs. With the introduction of the Ford Granada, my brother bought one with a hearse gearshift. A lovely beast of a car which I drove once. It had a powerful, throaty V-8 engine that sent shivers down my spine.

We used to love going to the saloon car races at Kyalami. From my seat in the grandstand, I had always had a bird’s eye view over a large part of the track. I could see a lot of the action and caught the excitement when the cars came roaring past. It was a great time for me.

One day, long after that, I was invited to Kyalami again to experience a lap in an Opel Calibri – my favourite car at that time. Behind the wheel was one of South Africa’s champ drivers. He was very skilled and put the Calibri through its paces while I sat in the back with another guest. That gave me a totally different perspective of what it’s like to drive the car …
